Ross holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm.) from the University of Saskatchewan. Ross then acquired a Securities license and his Pilot's license. He later joined the Northwest Housing Corporation based in Yellowknife where he was Manager of Business Development. Early retirement lead him to St. Lucia where he started his real estate career.
